PEN TO PAPER: The Mulberry House creative writing group.
By Paul Golder
We had a visit last week from some members of Ongar’s Mulberry House creative writing group – Alison Wingfield, Katie Partridge, Carol Moore and Natasha Dudley.
They came on to Patrick Sherring’s Friday lunchtime show to talk about how the group has given them confidence to develop their creativity.
It’s an encouraging and supportive environment where everyone can bring a contribution to share and others to hear.
Katie had been telling stories to her grandson and he gave the original inspiration for her to write them down. This has resulted in The Unexpected Guest, a teenage fiction that is available as a hardback and also an eBook from Amazon.
She said that her daughter had helped her with the publishing process and she now felt confident about potentially helping others.
Alison commented that it is not always easy to present material to strangers and people can be discouraged with memories from experiences at school.
Natasha enjoys writing poetry and the group are encouraging her to also publish via this same route.
Carol found her inspiration from the Psalms and trying to work them into a style like nursery rhymes, so they could be learnt by young children.
The group meets every Thursday morning from 10am until noon. You can find out more by calling 01277 365398 and you can hear them talking about the group on phoenixfm.com.
